Hearing aids are often the most practical route to correct hearing loss. Thankfully, hearing aids have come a long way with many technological advances in the past few years. They are more cosmetically appealing, more durable, and have better sound quality. Digital technology is more advanced resulting in better hearing, sound quality, and patient satisfaction. Hearing aids make speech clearer allowing a person with hearing loss to listen better, communicate, and ultimately participate more fully in their daily life. Sadly, only 20% of people who could benefit from a hearing aid actually use them. Recent studies have also linked hearing loss and a loss of cognitive function.
Hearing aids work by collecting sounds from the environment using microphones. The hearing aid then takes those sounds from the environment, processes them digitally to enhance speech clarity, and then transmits them into your ear using a receiver.

A certified, licensed audiologist will work with you to select your hearing aids. Information used to determine what hearing aid would be most appropriate includes: the type and severity of hearing loss, your profession, daily activities, dexterity, visual acuity, finances, and personal preference. The fitting of the hearing aids has changed considerably over the last 2 years. There are a variety of instant fit hearing aids that allow you to leave the office wearing it. Custom-made devices usually take one to two weeks from the time of ordering to the fitting.
According to Florida State law, first thirty (30) days after fitting of the hearing aid(s) is considered a trial period.
A 50% deposit is required when a hearing aid is ordered. The balance is due at the time the hearing aid(s) are fitted. We accept payment in the form of cash, personal check, Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Financing is also available through Citi Health Card. Please ask for an application if interested in this option.
Hearing aid manufacturers typically include one year of service coverage with the purchase of a hearing aid. This coverage includes professional services, factory repairs and parts. Once this warranty expires, additional coverage may be purchased to extend the warranty.
Hearing aids contain minute electronic components, including microphones, receivers, wiring, soldering, computer chips and sometime switches. Daily use of the hearing aids, especially in the South Florida climate can cause the hearing aids to malfunction. We generally prepare patients’ expectations by telling them to expect from two to four repairs per year, starting the first year.
New hearing aids are insured by the manufacturer for one occurrence of accidental loss during the first year following purchase. There is a $400 deductible and does NOT cover ear mold replacement. We recommend that patients check their homeowners insurance; sometimes hearing aids are specifically excluded.
Successful hearing aid users are generally individuals who admit they have a hearing loss, recognize the benefits and limitation of hearing aids, have good family support and realize that even with today’s technology, there will never be a perfect hearing aid.

Make sure to check the batteries in your hearing devices often and make sure there is no dirt, wax or debris interfering with the batteries’ performance. Batteries that are properly charged will make a noise (squeal) when cupped in your hand or after it has been inserted in your ear, when you cup your hand of the hearing aid it will also make a noise.
